7. Revis Duin Blakeney

b. September 10, 1912; d. July 23, 1999. Burial Greenville, SC

Revis Duin Blakeney died July 23, 1999, of lung cancer. Services were held July 26 at Doughty-Stevens Chapel. Dr. Hollis Marshal Officiating. Interment was Oak Grove Cemetery, Greeneville, TN.

Mr. Blakeney served as a teacher and administrator of schools in Alabama and Georgia from 1936 to 1960. He was superintendent of Gainesville, GA city school from 1960 until his retirement in 1976. Mr. Blakeney served as the president of the Georgia State Superintendent's Association, member of the Advisory Council of the American Association of School Superintended's Chairman of the Georgia committee of the Southern Association of colleges and Secondary Schools, member of the Southern States Work conference on School Boards, chairman of the personnel committee of the National Humanities Faculty and president of the local Retired Teacher's Association.

His activities in the community included Scouts, Community Chest, March of Dimes, Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and president of Kiwanis Clubs in both Thomasville and Gainesville, GA.

Mr. Blakeney was elected to Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southeast, and was a member of the Delta Kappa professional fraternity. He served on the Board of Trustees of both Truitt McConnell and Norman Park colleges.

He held degrees from West Alabama University and from the University of Alabama and did post graduate work at Columbia University.

Mr. Blakeney was an active member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA, He taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Deacons, where he was given the honor of "Deacon for Life" and sand in the choir until he was past eighty years of age.
